The Peacock Room

  • View of the Peacock Room showing the fighting Peacock mural. On the left wall the shutters are open, letting in muted daylight. The right wall features gilded shelves full of porcelain.
  • View of the Peacock Room showing Princess from the Land of Porcelain - a painting depicting a woman wearing a pink kimono- on the far wall over a fireplace. On the left wall, porcelain vessels sit upon gilded shelves. On the right wall, the shutters are open.
  • Gilded, ornate shelving holding vessels in turquoise, dark aqua, bisque, and a metallic taupe.
  • A corner of ornate, gilded shelving holding many porcelain plates and vessels.
  • Ornate, gilded shelving displaying porcelain vessels. The shelves form a square, in the middle of which is a larger shelf, featuring a two-toned vase.
  • An area of shelving in the Peacock Room displaying very small ceramic cups. Beneath the shelving is a credenza, upon which is displayed a muted blue vessel.
  • Gilded shelving displaying three vessels: a tall, brick red vessel with blue glaze dripping down from the neck of the vessel; a short, round vessel - white with a swatch of red; and a tall, thin, light blue vase with the sculpted form of a snake winding around the neck.
  • Peacock Room ceiling: dappled greens with gold molding and eight pendant lights in two rows.
  • View of the Peacock Room showing a long wall full of ceramic vessels.
  • View of Peacock Rom showing the shutters, closed: green, painted with gold peacock details.
  • Closer view of Princess from the Land of Porcelain - a large painting depicting a Western woman in a pink kimono - in a gold frame, above a blue fireplace.
  • View of the Peacock Room showing the open windows. The windows have gridded grilles. Through them, the Smithsonian Garden is visible in cool, evening tones.
  • Oblique view of the Peacock Room, showing the Fighting Peacock mural at the far end, three open windows, through which the night sky over the Smithsonian garden is visible.
