Nearly one hundred years ago, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art was founded as a forum for cultural exchange. Since then, it has been our mission to use our remarkable collections as a catalyst for leading scholarship, groundbreaking conservation and scientific research, and exhibitions and public programs that educate and inspire.

Federal funding maintains the facilities and core operations of Smithsonian museums like ours, but we depend on supporters like you to help us welcome learners of all ages and backgrounds.

Your gift of any amount ensures these programs remain free and accessible to everyone.

Areas of Support

At the National Museum of Asian Art, there are so many opportunities to make an impact. Did you know that you can direct your gift to the program or initiative that means the most to you?

Unrestricted support provides us the ability to innovate and expand. In addition to operational needs, your gift provides the flexibility to launch new initiatives, develop our virtual presence and digital resources, and help an increasing number of learners engage with the arts of Asia. Most critically, your unrestricted support ensures that the museum remains free and accessible to all.

Whether through virtual field trips, teacher-in-residence training, or K–12 curriculum resources, your support gives teachers the tools they need to teach global competence and gives students the opportunity to discover the world through art and culture.

Highlighting the stunning diversity of Asian arts and cultures with food, film, music, dance, and dialogue, your gift fosters cultural exchange with countless pathways for understanding and appreciation. Public festivals, live performances, film screenings, the Meyer Concert Series, panel discussions, family workshops, and more are always free and only possible with your support.

Safeguard the museum collections, train the next generation of scientists and conservators, and help the museum lead the field in research on Asian art by supporting our internationally renowned Department of Conservation and Scientific Research. Your gift enriches our knowledge of Asian and American art and preserves these treasures for the future.

Your support drives innovation and creativity in our world-class exhibitions, allowing curators to imagine new ways to understand our collections and to partner with institutions around the world. In the museum’s next century, exhibitions will focus on the visitor’s experience, experimentation with digital and immersive features, global ties, and the expansion of audiences.

Your gift will ensure that the museum can preserve and exhibit its remarkable objects as well as fund new acquisitions. Thanks to your vision for the future, the museum will continue to grow and care for the extraordinary collections it holds in trust for the nation.
