Old Battersea Bridge

Line drawing of Battersea bridge with a sailboat visible between its piers

Old Battersea Bridge was built in the late eighteenth century. Made of timber, it was destroyed in the mid-1880’s and an iron bridge was constructed in its place. Depicted by numerous artists, including Whistler and J.M.W. Turner, the bridge served as an iconic landmark of the Chelsea neighborhood.
