Join us in celebrating Women’s History Month with a trio of films by the pioneering Japanese female director Kinuyo Tanaka. Best known as an actress, especially for her work with Kenji Mizoguchi, Tanaka became only the second woman to direct a film in Japan, with her first in 1953. Her directorial work has enjoyed a rediscovery in recent years, with all six of her films now restored and screening the world over. The National Gallery of Art will screen the other three films in April, and in May, the AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring, MD, will present an overview of her acting work.
Films are shown in the 300-seat Meyer Auditorium. Preregistration (up to four tickets per person per film) is encouraged but not required. Seating is available on a first–come, first served basis for patrons without tickets.
