Ishikawa was a successful industrialist, having earned his degree in mining from Tokyo University in 1908. He worked for several mining companies, including a gold mine in Kagoshima, and then served as director of other industrial firms in Tochigi and Kogyo and in Korea. Like Hirogane Yoshiro and others in the 1920s and 1930s, Ishikawa was an active amateur photographer. Records suggest he retired to Tokyo, where he would have been exposed to the pioneering art photography clubs that emerged in the early twentieth century.
