Internationally renowned New Delhi–based artist Atul Bhalla will discuss his work’s extended engagement with rivers and water bodies. Featured in Unstill Waters: Contemporary Photography from India, Bhalla will offer a deep dive into his current practice and ongoing projects in this special event. The program will include a discussion between Bhalla and Dr. Mark Giordano of Georgetown University, concluding with a live Q&A moderated by curator Carol Huh. 
  
Following this event, join the artist for a gallery talk in the exhibition Unstill Waters: Contemporary Photography from India.  
 
Atul Bhalla (India, b. 1964) received his BFA from the University of New Delhi and MFA from Northern Illinois University. Across diverse media and especially photography, his artistic production is shaped by interest in the relationship between water and the urban environment. The artist lives and works in New Delhi, where he is a professor in the Department of Art & Performing Art at Shiv Nadar University. He is represented by sepiaEYE in New York and Vadehra Art Gallery in New Delhi. 
 
Mark Giordano is professor of geography and vice dean for undergraduate affairs in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. His research and teaching focus on the international political dimensions of water, agriculture, and the environment. Prior to joining Georgetown, Mark held multiple roles at the Sri Lanka– based International Water Management Institute, winner of the Stockholm Water Prize (the "Nobel Prize for Water"). He previously worked as a trade economist and a combine mechanic and has spent a substantial part of his professional life in Asia and Africa. He is from a small town in the state of Washington. 
 
Carol Huh is associate curator of contemporary Asian art at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art. Huh focuses on current artistic production related to Asia through exhibitions, acquisitions, and public programs.
