In this documentary, director Mina Keshavarz unveils a deep family secret involving the death of her grandmother, who was a victim of domestic violence. Keshavarz tells this story through a monologue addressed to her grandmother about the history of women’s activism in Iran, including a campaign called “Stop Domestic Violence Against Women,” begun in 2016. Such campaigns are forbidden in Iran, but feminist activists nevertheless worked to pressure the government to pass a new law protecting women against violence. (Dir.: Mina Keshavarz, Iran/Germany, 2020, 87 min., Persian with English subtitles)
