Shin Su-won’s Hommage (playing in the Meyer Auditorium on June 24) is both a tribute to Korea’s pioneering women directors and a fictionalized version of the restoration of A Woman Judge. As a companion piece, we are streaming this landmark film, one of the few woman-directed films from the 1960s. In it, an ambitious woman is determined to become a judge despite her family’s insistence that she settle down and get married. This film is presented courtesy of the Korean Film Archive.
