Burcu Esenc, director of I Had A Dream, discusses her film and the history of the Ubykh language with Mary Linn, curator of language and cultural vitality at the Smithsonian Center for Folklife & Cultural Heritage. Esenc’s grandfather was the last known Ubykh speaker, a unique language inspired by the sounds of nature and made up of over eighty consonants and only five vowels.
