The object was assigned Freer vault no. V20.2005a-e and described as “Hanging scroll; “Prunus Branch,” Sakai Hoitsu, 1761-1828.” In 2020 the object was internally transferred from the Freer Study Collection to the Museum’s Freer Gallery of Art collection.Victor (1919-2013) and Takako (1923-2015) Hauge were collectors of art, antiquities, and crafts. Victor, together with his brother Osborne "Bud" Hauge (1914–2004) and Bud’s wife Gratia Hauge (1907-2000), and Takako formed significant collections of objects from Southeast Asia and Iran, as well as Islamic art. Victor and Bud were in the U.S. Foreign Service and it was through these travels that the two couples began collecting. Victor and Takako co-authored the catalog "Folk Traditions in Japanese Art," and both couples donated part of their collections to the National Museum of Asian Art.[2] See object file for copy of Freer Gallery of Art Deed of Gift signed by Victor L.
