[1] According to Curatorial Remarks 1 and 2 in the object record, this object was purchased as a part of the publication "The Pageant," published in London in 1896. The lithograph was entitled "The Doctor - Portrait of My Brother," and was facing page 26 in the publication. See also, Original Whistler List, Lithographs, Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery Archives.

[2] The original deed of Charles Lang Freer's gift was signed in 1906. The collection was received in 1920 upon the completion of the Freer Gallery.
