Object Details

  • Description

    Tea bowl, deep cylindrical-ovoidal; small bold foot.
    Clay: white porcelain
    Glaze: thin, transparent; pitted and stained with brown; stops well short of foot and runs in spots and streaks.
    Decoration: painted in red-brown under glaze; single spray of orchid-like flower

Yamanaka & Company maintained branch offices, at various times, in Boston, Chicago, London, Peking, Shanghai, Osaka, Nara, and Kyoto. During the summer, the company also maintained seasonal locations in Newport, Bar Harbor, and Atlantic City.
