Description
Blue-and-white ceramic bowl. Shallow body, wide-lipped rim. Low, wide foot ring. Edge of rim is scalloped. Interior and exterior are decorated with blue paint under a clear glaze. Interior is decorated with floral or vegetal patterns. The center of the interior of the bowl contains a bird atop a hill with stylized peonies emanating from the hillside and surrounding the bird. Some of the flowers and parts of the bird contain a brown/red paint. Design on exterior of bowl was possibly floral, but blurred so as to appear abstract. Foot ring is covered with a brown glaze. Four holes on one side of foot ring for hanging. A fragment of rope still remains in two of the holes. There is a chip out of the rim and the surface of the glaze has crackled. There is a dark smudge in one corner of the center of the bowl, which appears to be underneath the glaze. -
