Object Details

  • Description

Shape: Mouth and roughly one-third of the shoulder of a small Sawankhalok celadon bottle. Thickness of the bottle wall is 0.4 - 0.5 cm except at the fracture line where it abruptly thins to 0.2 cm.
Clay: The body is composed of a light gray, extremely fine-grained clay having very few inclusions.
Glaze: The glaze is a high-quality, pale-green celadon which becomes a rich jade-like green where it pools in the incised areas of the decoration. The glaze extends down the short throat of the bottle and terminates 0.5 - 1.0 cm below the bottom of the throat.
Decoration: The shoulder of the bottle was incised with a floral design with the petals radiating out from the bottom of the neck and terminating at two concentric circles on top of the shoulder.
    Marks: None.
