Members of the media are invited to tour a celebration commemorating Diwali, the Hindu festival of light, with the National Museum of Asian Art. Diwali is celebrated by many people around the world. The festival spans five days and marks the beginning of the new year. Each of the five days of Diwali is associated with specific activities, all of which involve lighting lights and being with friends, family and members of the community. As the festival of light, light and fire holds heavy symbolism around the victory of knowledge over ignorance and hope over sadness, among other things.
This year’s Diwali celebration at the National Museum of Asian Art will consist of performances from local dance communities, food offerings from local restaurants, craft activities, a dance party and more. The full schedule is available online.
The Diwali celebration is part of the 2023 programming marking the 100th anniversary of the National Museum of Asian Art’s founding. Learn more about the centennial celebrations. #TheNext100
