Members of the media are invited to celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month with the National Museum of Asian Art’s monthlong IlluminAsia Festival. Throughout May, the museum will present programs dedicated to Asian American and Asian diasporic storytelling.

The festival will include a children’s book festival, poetry night, films screenings, art market, mahjong night, performances, panel discussions, scholarly talks, gallery tours and more. All events are free of charge.

Asian American cultural identity and storytelling are crucial to understanding the arts and cultures of Asia, especially in the context of the United States. Storytelling connects communities to their heritage and shapes the way people understand and relate to one another. This month of programming will bring people together to celebrate AANHPI experiences, perspectives and achievements in arts and culture.

This is the third season in a five-year initiative sponsored by Bank of America that supports annual celebrations during AANHPI Heritage Month. Bank of America is the Founding Sponsor of the National Museum of Asian Art’s “IlluminAsia” Arts and Culture Festival.
