The Tusjukiji Hotel was Tokyo's first Western-style hotel. Built along the shore with a large, landscaped garden, the hotel was planned to attract foreigners who might stop there between Tokyo and Yokohama. The hotel was never, however, a great economic success, and just four years after its completion, it was completely demolished in a fire. The hotel building combined Western and Japanese architectural elements. This print focuses on the hotel garden. -
