Sackler Gallery for acquisition consideration on January 5, 1999.
    Dr. Siddharth K. Bhansali of New Orleans, LA is a cardiologist and is an important collector of Indian bronze sculpture, as well as Indian paintings and photographs. A native of Mumbai (formerly Bombay), India, Dr. Bhansali began collecting Indian bronzes around 1976 and his collection of over 1,000 Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain bronzes covers fifteen centuries of art. In 2011, about one hundred works from his collection were featured in the exhibition at the New Orleans Museum of Art titled “The Elegant Image: Hindu, Buddhist and Jain Bronzes From The Indian Subcontinent In The Siddharth K. Bhansali Collection” which was curated by Dr. Pratapaditya Pal. Dr. Bhansali is also a patron of the arts in New Orleans and works from his collection may also be found at the New Orleans Museum of Art.
