Object Details

  • Description

A blue-and-white ceramic dish. Body is off-white stonepaste with white slip and blue decoration painted under a clear glaze. Dish is fairly deep and contains a flat rim. The foot ring is narrow and shallow and is also glazed. The pattern in the center of the dish consists of stylized flowers and leaves including a broad face of a peony. There are also what appear to be two small white birds in the bottom center of the dish. Surrounding these designs are twelve medallions (a variation of the Chinese cloud collar motif) each containing a scene of a bird in profile. The bottom of the dish contains a blue line near the rim and one near the foot ring. There are also five stylized motifs. In the center of the foot ring is a blue mark under the glaze. The foot contains eight holes for hanging with the remnants of rope or string.
