Small stemmed cup

Object Details

• Description

  A small, hand-built stemmed cup made of buff earthenware. The rim is round, wide and flares outward. The body tapers in slightly beneath the rim, then slopes outward to the bulbous lower center body. There is brown paint/slip decoration around the upper exterior of the cup: two concentric lines, followed by a register of geometric designs; beneath it, four concentric bands the lowest of which forms the upper register of a zone which encircles the widest circumference of the cup. This zone features alternating crosshatching rectangles astride triangles, and bird designs.

  Small losses to the rim have been filled with a tinted plaster/putty material. Losses and abrasions to the brown paint/slip decoration appear to have been repainted. Otherwise intact and in fair-good condition. Scattered dirt/deposits across the surface.
