    [1] According to Acquisition Justification, Mr. Ellsworth was in the possession of this calligraphy from at least in 1987-88. “In 1987-88 he gave eight works of calligraphy to the Freer Gallery of Art. Six works came to [Freer and Sackler Galleries] immediately, but Mr. Ellsworth retained these two favorite pieces for display in his home until his demise. Following settlement of his estate, they have been delivered to the museum.” See Curatorial Remark 1 in the object record.
