Mr. Taniguchi's intention to give this collection to the Freer Gallery of Art was widely publicized in Japan, through an exhibition and catalogue published by the Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Japan Economic News), prior to the departure of the paintings for the U.S. (see Curatorial Note 4, Ann Yonemura, February 6, 1997, in the object record). Also, see extensive correspondence in the object file regarding this gift; note that FSC-PA-38 is now F1997.2 (according to Curatorial Note 3, Elizabeth Duley, July 8, 1997, in the object record). -
