Object Details

  • Description

    Wide shallow bowl, walls opening wide above broad vessel base, ending in plain rim. Exterior wall trimmed almost to rim. Small foot with off-center interior trimming quickly cut, leaving peak of clay in center; exterior of foot beveled. Rim warped, possibly by handling. Three hairline cracks below rim. Gold lacquer repair to loss in rim.
    Clay: Medium-brown sandy stoneware with many white particles.
    Glaze: Vessel dipped into white slip, which covers interior and most of exterior wall, stopping about 1 cm above foot; four trails of slip run to foot. Slip has lifted or popped off where thick at lower edge. Clear, viscous glaze, grayish where thick, not applied to foot or base; four fingerprints outside foot. Ring of five oval stacking scars off-center in bottom. Slip and glaze stained and crackled in interior.
