• Description

  Vase with fairly wide mouth, thin rim and short neck, shoulders sloping to globular body resting on wide, circular foot with trimmed footrim.

  Clay: Porcelain; footrim darkened on surface by use.

  Glaze: Red (copper) glaze applied to exterior. Some areas of the body are colorless, the result of the copper pigment being diffused and reduced at various states. The color is denser and duller at the neck and shoulders, where a pitted, "orange-peel" texture to upper body resulted from traces of minute bubbles which burst at high temperatures. The intended color appears on the upper body but failed to develop on the lower. Traces of copper pigment are visible on the interior and foot.
