Clarice Weston’s letter states, “Dear Sirs, [/] I have been asked by the dealer from whom you purchased the two mother of pearl plates to furnish you with details of their provenance. [/] I do not know precisely how or when my family acquired them but I do remember them as having come from my grandfather's house in North Yorkshire after his death in 1928.”

Alderman, to Freer Gallery of Art, dated July 14, 1989, and marked approved on September 15, 1989. This invoice includes F1989.69 and F1989.70, which are described together as, “A Mother of Pearl Plate and Cup [sic, Plate]. Mughal, 16th or 17th c. [/] Diameters: 26.5 and 15.5 cm.”
