Long-neck bottle

Object Details

• Description

  Long-necked bottle. Hand-built by coiling and smoothing; seams of coils visible near base and inside neck. Squat jar shape topped by elongated nearly cylindrical neck, ending in flat rim. Flat bottom.

  Clay: pottery, medium gray on surface.

  Decoration: lower body completely covered by lattice texture made by impressing or paddling with a carved tool. Shoulder and neck smoothed. Three horizontal lines on shoulder with use of turntable, the lowest line at the point where lattice-textured and smooth surfaces meet. Three horizontal lines, more closely spaced, incised around neck just below rim.

  [2] Helen Dalling Ling operated "The Green Dragon" antiques shop in Shanghai from 1938 to 1950 and a shop under her own name in Singapore from 1951 until her death in 1982.
