Description
This open composition represents a lake scene in autumn. Three scholars are enjoying an outing in a boat, while the boy is preparing tea. Distant mountains are simply rendered in broad strokes of wash. -
Inscriptions
(Fu Shen and Julia Murray, 1981) The artist's inscription in upper right, written in running script (hsing-shu) contains a couplet in five-character meter, which may be translated as follows:"The shadow of geese in a line crosses the sky;A pair of oars goes through the reed-flowers."The inscription, which is dated mid-spring of the year ping-tzu (1696), also states that the painting is done after Shen Chou (1427-1509).
