Description
This album includes a variety of themes--illustrations of folk-tales, genre subjects, paintings of plants and animals, and landscapes. Mounted accordian-style, the sketches progress from relatively mild subjects to the increasingly macabre, although even near the end of the sequence innocuous scenes are interspersed to vary the mood. Many of the individual compositions appear to be based directly on paintings or sketches by Hokusai. No signatures or seals appear on the album. -
