  • Description

    Blue and white porcelain bowl (Clay: fine white porcelain with iron wash fired red on unglazed base.) Glaze: colorless, but has a semi-opaque quality. Decoration in underglaze cobalt blue. Some of the blue color is hazy. On the exterior; around the footring, a band of keyfret design; above this. lotus lappets with flowers depcited inside the petal outlines; around the belly of the bowl, a scroll of peony flowers and leaves, and around the mouth rim, a wide band oultine with blue circles inside of which is a scroll with lingzhi fungus. On the interior: in the well of the bowl, a bifurcated stem that supports four peony blossoms. To the side of the stem, a bud appears. The cavetto of the bowl is decorated with a scroll of lotus flowers. Above this, the inside of the mouth has a band identical to that on the outside of the bowl. The cobalt used has a muted blue color and the glaze is partially opacified, also dimming the color.
