• Description

  Bowl, broad ovoid; low, solid foot; three spur-marks.

  Clay: hard, grayish.

  Glaze: brilliant greenish-gray celadon; crackled.

  Decoration: inlaid in white and black under glaze; inside, chrysanthemum medallion, four fruited sprays, scroll border, all in white only; outside, four peony medallions in foliate ground, floral scroll border, in white and black.

Yamanaka & Company maintained branch offices, at various times, in Boston, Chicago, London, Peking, Shanghai, Osaka, Nara, and Kyoto. During the summer, the company also maintained seasonal locations in Newport, Bar Harbor, and Atlantic City.
