Colnaghi & Co. in the summer of 1905 [2]From 1920Freer Gallery of Art, gift of Charles Lang Freer in 1920 [3]Notes:[1] According to Curatorial Remark 3 in the object record, a note in Mr. Freer's handwriting, in pencil on the back of the object, states: "From the sale at the Hotel Drouot, June 7/05.Deprez bo't for me." See also, List of Whistler Reserved Objects Transferred to Smithsonian Institution, Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery Archives. This object was kept in the Reserved section until January of 1921, when it was transferred to the Smithsonian Institution and given a registration number for that year. Later, the registration number was changed to correspond with the year of purchase.[2] See note 1.[3] The original deed of Charles Lang Freer's gift was signed in 1906. The collection was received in 1920 upon the completion of the Freer Gallery. -
