    [3] The original deed of Charles Lang Freer's gift was signed in 1906. The collection was received in 1920 upon the completion of the Freer Gallery. During an inventory of the collection of Japanese lacquerware, conducted on December 15-16, 1986, this object was discovered to be missing from the collection (for further details, see the Registrar's files, as well as Curatorial Remark 7, Kate Theimer, August 9, 1996, in the object record).
