    False signature of Ogata Kenzan (1663-1743)
  • Description

    Bowl, large, flaring, on heavy beveled foot. Cracked and repaired.
    Clay: Buff clay, hard, coarse.
    Glaze: grayish-brown, crackled.
    Decoration: white slip and iron pigment under clear glaze, enamels over glaze. Embossed and painted over glaze in green, white, black, red, and violet.
    Mark: Kenzan.

    Painted mark on base, iron under green overglaze enamel, reads "Kenzan."
