Description

Red symbolizes good fortune and joy and is synonymous with Lunar New Year. Journey through the color red with NMAA curators Kit Brooks and Jan Stuart to learn about this fiery pigment present in the objects and artworks throughout our galleries. Leave this journey with newfound fortune and information about the museum’s array of cultural objects and colors. Afterward, stop by ImaginAsia to create hong bao, red envelopes to give to your friends and family as a way of wishing them good luck in the new year.

This program is part of the National Museum of Asian Art’s Lunar New Year 2023 Celebration and Journey of Color series.
