Lotus

TILE

A lotus blossom features in the center of this eight-pointed tile. Unlike examples from other parts of Asia, it does not have a symbolic meaning. The design demonstrates the use of Chinese-inspired motifs in fourteenth-century works of art created in Iran.

This tile originally decorated an interior wall. The style suggests it was made during the Mongol Il-Khanid dynasty (1256–1353).
