Description

This gallery talk led by Jan Stuart, the museum’s Melvin R. Seiden Curator of Chinese Art, explains the imagery and technique of a Chinese polychrome lacquer screen dated to 1672. It depicts an idealized view of the active lives of ancient imperial women set in a grand garden and palace. Such objects were luxuries in China and were also valued in Europe, where they were called Coromandel screens. Join us to learn more!
