One of the most beloved Bollywood classics of all time, Amar Akbar Anthony features megastar Amitabh Bachchan at his charismatic best. He plays one of three brothers separated as children and raised in three different religious traditions, Hindu, Muslim, and Christian, who reunite as adults to battle villainy. Directed by the legendary Manmohan Desai, this “monument to religious tolerance and exuberant storytelling” (Olaf Moller, International Film Festival Rotterdam) is both a feast of song, dance, and comedy, and, in keeping with the spirit of Diwali, a refreshing corrective to today’s atmosphere of interfaith strife. Presented in a new digital restoration by the Film Heritage Foundation. (Dir.: Manmohan Desai, India, 1977, 175 min., DCP, Hindi with English subtitles)
Film admission policy: Films are shown in the 300-seat Meyer Auditorium. Preregistration (up to four tickets per person per film) is encouraged but not required. Seating is available on a first –come, first served basis for patrons without tickets.
