In Person: Sara Nodjoumi, Till Schauder, and Nikzad Nodjoumi

This documentary by the husband-and-wife team of Sara Nodjoumi and Till Schauder tells the story of Nodjoumi’s father Nikzad Nodjoumi, a famed artist who was born in Iran but moved to New York as a young man. Deeply involved in social justice causes in his new home, he returned to Iran to participate in the protests against the Shah, only to run afoul of the Iranian government after the revolution, due to the political content of his work. In part a political thriller about Sara’s attempts to reclaim a collection of her father’s paintings that have languished in a Tehran museum since 1980, it is at heart an effort by a daughter to understand her father and the toll his commitment to art and activism took on his family. Join the codirectors and Nikzad Nodjoumi for a post-film Q&A. (Dir.: Sara Nodjoumi & Till Schauder, United States, 2023, 95 min., DCP, English and Persian with English subtitles)
