Reserved docent-led tours for Girl Scouts are offered at 10:15 am, 11:15 am, 12:15 pm, 1:15 pm, and 2:15 pm daily, except for Wednesdays and federal holidays, subject to availability. Each tour lasts approximately one hour.

Potter Badge Tour
Level: Brownie
Two adult chaperones are required per group of 10 Scouts.
Discover objects made of clay from throughout Asia. Learn how Asian ceramic or porcelain objects are made. Bring a notebook to draw what you see and to record your ideas about pottery.
This tour fulfills step 1 of the Potter badge.

Painting Badge Tour
Level: Brownie
Two adult chaperones are required per group of 10 Scouts.
Explore paintings from throughout Asia and look at what they have in common. Are they about nature, people, or objects? What moods do they project? Talk about who painted them, where and when, and why they inspire you.
This tour fulfills step 1 of the Painting badge.

Make Your Own Tour
All levels
Two adult chaperones are required per group of 10 Scouts.
Create a tour about one of our current exhibitions to match other Girl Scout badges. Possible topics are Digital Photographer and Drawing (Junior), Book Artist (Cadette), Textile Artist (Senior), and Photography (Ambassador). When you fill out the online tour request form, please select “Customize a Tour” and indicate your badge of interest in the “Additional Information” section. Our docents will work with you to plan a suitable tour.

Scheduling a tour

  1. Choose a tour and day that works for your group.
  2. Review the museum guidelines.
  3. Submit a request at least four weeks in advance using the online form.
  4. Review and follow the chaperone requirements carefully for your requested tour.
  5. If your group is planning to visit in less than four weeks, complete the request form on the self-guided groups page. Guided Scout tours cannot be arranged less than four weeks in advance of the planned visit.

Things to Know

Requests are handled on a first-come, first-served basis and depend on availability.

Please indicate any special needs as “additional information” on the request form.

Subject to availability, we can provide:

  • tours in some foreign languages (please specify)
  • tours for visually impaired visitors
  • sign-language interpreters

Two weeks before your tour, we will email a confirmation with logistical information, including which building your group should enter.

Only a portion of our vast art collection is on view at any given time. We cannot guarantee that a specific object will be on display when your group visits.

For your safety, all visitors will have their bags checked. See the complete list of restricted items and bag sizes.

You may take photographs of the permanent collection but not of loan objects or exhibitions. Please be aware of “no photography” signage in the galleries.
