Encountering the Buddha imageEncountering the Buddha: Art and Practice across Asia

Exhibition reopens November 2021

Drawing on the Freer and Sackler’s collections from across Asia, this exhibition expands the understanding of Buddhism in Asian art through beautiful objects and immersive spaces. Encountering the Buddha illuminates the ways in which art and place embody and express the teachings of Buddhism.

Our museum shop’s selection of gifts is inspired by the art and objects in the exhibition. All income from our sales supports the chartered educational purposes and activities of the Smithsonian Institution.
