Ars Orientalis 56 Call for Papers
Ars Orientalis invites submissions of innovative articles on the arts of the broad geographic area of Asia, from the ancient period to the contemporary.
We seek original, previously unpublished work that reflect insightful interventions, including but not limited to comparative or interdisciplinary approaches, multi-media content, and digital humanities methods. Manuscripts should be 8,000 to 12,000 words (including endnotes).
Ars Orientalis is a digital publication with a print-on-demand option. The digital volume also allows for the incorporation of other media, such as video, sound, and 3D models. Visual material must include permissions for print and online reproduction.
Please refer to the submission and style guide for additional guidelines. To submit or request more information, please email Sana Mirza and Judy Lee at ArsOrientalis@si.edu.
When submitting articles, authors should use a separate title page and remove their names and any identifying material elsewhere from the submitted files to preserve the anonymity of article submissions for the peer-review process.
Accompanying your submission, please also include a 150-200 word abstract and a pdf containing your images with captions. Manuscripts may contain up to 25 images in consultation with the journal editors. Authors are required to obtain rights and pay all image permission fees.
On March 1, 2024, we will begin accepting submissions for volume 56 to be published in November 2026. Articles must be received by September 1, 2024 to be considered for AO 56.
