 According to Curatorial Remark 1 in the object record, "Gift from Howard Mansfield" is written on the back of the lithograph in pencil in Mr. Freer's writing. See also, Curatorial Remark 2, G.D.G., 1921, which states: "No record existing of the time of the gift, the object was given a registration number for 1906, the year of the printed Inventory."

 The original deed of Charles Lang Freer's gift was signed in 1906. The collection was received in 1920 upon the completion of the Freer Gallery.
