Training the Next Generation

Education in the Department of Conservation and Scientific Research (CSR) is a combination of training and outreach. Mentoring emerging professionals in the field and helping to develop the next generation of conservators and conservation scientists specializing in the care of Asian art is a critical goal of CSR. We strive to make the department a place to experience the wonder of Asian art, to share these experiences with colleagues and transform perceptions about Asian art materials.

Our work with fellows, interns, pre-program students and volunteers facilitates and encourages new research and treatment and uses its results to elucidate art and cultural understanding. This helps our visitors to experience exquisite works of art that challenge perceptions, open minds, and reveal how art influences culture.
