Wakao Toshisada (Japan, born 1933) -
Label
Wakao Toshidada was born in Tajimi, a town in the Mino region east of the city of Nagoya. His ceramics employ the materials and techniques of Shino ware, a product of Mino developed during the sixteenth century and favored for tea-ceremony utensils and tableware. Shino ware combines the local white clay with a translucent white glaze formulated from feldspar; its decoration incorporates iron pigment, either painted on or simply poured over the surface, as on this bowl. -
