Description
Mallet-shaped bottle resting on low, raised footring inset from edge of body. Straight cylindrical body, squared shoulders sloping slightly upwards to meet long neck tapering to round mouth with everted rim. Old silver lacquer repairs to mouth and rim.Clay: Porcelain. Fine grains of sand from kiln setting embedded in glazed foot.Glaze: Transparent, pale blue-green glaze applied to entire exterior, foot and interior of neck. Deeper color visible on neck and shoulders where glaze pools around base of neck. Network of crazing visible on one side of neck, shoulders and body. Glaze scratched and worn in places; crazing fractures are stained. -

In the late Joseon period, potters started making cylindrical porcelain bottles like this one in addition to the popular pear-shaped or round forms. -
