A tour of the Freer's collections illuminates explorer Ibn Battuta's travels in Asia beyond those chronicled in the film Journey to Mecca: In the Footsteps of Ibn Battuta, showing at the Johnson IMAX(R) Theater from January 14 to March 4, 2010. Participants will be introduced to Battuta's artistic discoveries in the Islamic world, India, and China.

Recommended for grades 6-12; tours limited to groups of 20; subject to availability
Students will explore and discuss Arabic calligraphy, lavishly illustrated manuscripts, glittering glasswork, and exquisite metalwork, primarily from West Asia and North Africa. Teachers may request a tour for a maximum of twenty students with four weeks' advance written notice through the online tour request form.
